Planking

Remember a couple years ago when social media sites were filled with ridiculous pictures of people lying face down in unusual, awkward and seemingly uncomfortable positions?  This bizarre fad that took place mainly in 2011 has seemed to fallen off the Earth, but it definitely had its glory days.  In its reign of terror, planking injured many people and even caused one death.  It also made countless people look like idiots.

So what ever happened to planking?  Why did it disappear? 

Its hard to say exactly why fads like this just seem to fade away.  A huge part of it is people have a very short attention span and just get tired of something so pointless.  Perhaps another reason people decided to stop being so risky would be the death of Acton Beale, who fell 7 stories after planking on a balcony.  The Brisbane Times Reported that Beale had been out planking in various locations that night, and lost his footing while getting on to the balcony.  It's sad to see a life taken as a result of this, but I have to imagine that Darwin is smiling in his grave as a result.  This incident took place in Australia, but planking has spanned all across the globe.

I'm not a personal fan of planking, but there are some plankers that I have to admire.  Below are some of my favourites.

This guy took things up a notch by adding the nude aspect.  I have to respect that.

Planking will rest peacefully, but will be missed by nobody.
